A free face-to-face video service via Google Chrome
Zoom offers face-to-face video, instant messaging, and high quality screen sharing via your Google Chrome web browser. The extension connects you directly to the cloud where the service functions on multiple servers. You may set up meetings with numerous people and see them all on your screen. It is optimized for use with the Google Chromebook.
A nice service when you consider that it is free
Zoom is not the only free video and face-to-face service on the Internet, but it does allow you to set up meeting rooms where other people may join you for a face-to-face Internet meetings. Setting up the interface and setting up your video chats is tricky, but joining meetings is simple if you are already in contact with the person who set it up. You may see images of the people you are talking to while you are using the instant messaging program. It also allows you to turn off the video function, which means you are not forced into showing yourself when they communicate with other users.
The program still has some issues
Despite the popularity of Zoom, one is drawn to wonder if the service is free because it has so many technical problems. Some people experience problems with sound lag, others with getting any sound at all, others have problems getting an image to show, and it isn't very compatible with the Google Chrome mobile app. The extension is fine for use while it is free, but you probably shouldn't spend money on it until they have worked out all their technical problems.
